James A. “Jim” Sacker, 75 of Monroe, passed away at his home November 6, 2025 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jim was born August 27, 1950 to parents Marian (Kubly) and Ralph Sacker. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe and lived the majority of this life in the farmhouse he grew up in. He was the youngest of four siblings and took over the family farm, transitioning from raising beef cows to a dairy farm.
Jim attended Green County Normal School through 8th grade, then attended Monroe High School, graduating in 1968. He was an avid 4-H-er and proud FFA member and officer. He enjoyed showing cattle and later helped 4-H youth with their projects, including his own children. He was also lifelong member of the Green County Forestry Center and St. John’s United Church of Christ.
On September 29, 1984 he married the love of his life, Susan “Sue” (Swenson) who he affectionately called “Suzie”. Together they worked side-by-side farming and raising their children, whom he loved very much. He was proud of his farm and his family and enjoyed taking care of animals. He loved all the kitties and many dogs he had over the years, especially Snoopy.
Jim loved being a Gramps and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved going fishing, especially with his wife at their favorite place in Hayward that they visited every fall for 15+ years, and with his friends in Canada.
There wasn’t anything Jim couldn’t do – farming, fixing, woodworking, mechanics, remodeling, restoring old cars or tractors or any other project. He worked hard every day but it was never work to him.
Jim never considered himself retired. In 2019 he started a complete renovation of a 1902 farmhouse across from the farm for him and Sue to grow old in, creating a beautiful new-old house. He did most of the work himself and enjoyed showing it off to friends and neighbors.
Jim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan; children, Adam (Katie) of Evansville and Sarah (Josh) of Monroe; grandchildren, Wynn, Dahlia, Cypress, Maggie and Cal; siblings, Mary Ann (Mike) Krebs, Alvin (Dee) Sacker and Ronald Anderson; and mother-in-law Jane Swenson. He will be greatly missed by his Aunt Jean (Sacker) Friske of Hayward, WI; life-long best friend David Brown; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marian (Kubly) and Ralph Sacker; sister Joyce Anderson; father-in-law Gaylord Swenson; and nephews Steven Krebs and Chad Sacker.
Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home in Monroe on Thursday, November 13 from 4-8 pm. A service to celebrate his life will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ on Friday, November 14, at 11 am. Rev. Todd Hackman will officiate with a reception to follow at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A memorial fund will be established in Jim’s name. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
Special thank you to the many healthcare workers at SSM (Monroe especially). They took very good care of Jim and for that we are grateful!
