Irma E. Mayer, age 96, of Monroe, died on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, she was born on September 12, 1922 in Monroe, the daughter of Gustave and Emma (Zilmer) Monte. She attended Watson School in Browntown.
Irma married Ira L. Mayer on June 16, 1943 at Peace Church of Christ in Browntown.
Irma farmed alongside her husband in the South Wayne area until moving to Monroe in 1976. She later worked at the Monroe Hospital in housekeeping.
She was a member of Peace Church of Christ in Browntown; Women of the Moose Chapter#594; loved to play cards several times a week; and loved to go to the Casino.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Ron Rufener) Bartelt of Monroe and Darlyne (Terry) Dillon of Brodhead; 5 grandchildren, Michael (Melissa) Bartelt, Mark (Carrie) Bartelt, Michelle (Jonny) Richard, Julie Hilliard and Craig Dillon; 5 great-grandchildren, Casey, Mitchell, Maddie Bartelt, Jaelyn and Jacob Hilliard and Axel Richard; and sister, Ardelle Sellnow.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ira, siblings, Bernice Leck, Viola Buholzer, Retha Dix, Virgil Monte; son-in-law, Eugene Barelt in 2003.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE funeral home in Monroe with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. Burial will be in Saucerman Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 10th from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
