Helen (Kummer) Bratzke, age 100, of Monroe passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025 with family at SSM Hospice Home in Monroe.
Helen was born in route to the Monroe Hospital on November 30, 1924 to Walter and Lena (Stuckey) Kummer both Swiss immigrants. Helen attended the Bethel school; a one room country school house currently located at the Monroe Historical Society and graduated from Monroe High School in 1942. Initially she worked in several retail positions in Monroe and Madison. In 1948 she returned to Green County to serve as Deputy Register of Deeds. She was subsequently elected as Register of Deeds for 12 consecutive terms retiring in 1984.
Raymond and Helen Bratzke married on May 29,1957 at St John’s Church of Christ in Monroe. Their relationship was a true love story, meeting on a blind date, falling in love, and remaining inseparable for the next 68 years. Helen’s commitment to family was always unwavering, caring for her mother and eventually both of her parents until their passing. Helen and Ray had no children, but their home was always a favorite of their nieces/ nephews and great nieces/nephews. Christmas Eve at Helen and Ray’s was a family tradition that will always be remembered.
Helen is survived by her husband, Raymond; nine nieces and nephews; and seventeen great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Kummer, Edwin Kummer; her sister and best friend Mardell (Kummer) Crotty; brother-in-law, Morris Crotty; and two sisters-in-law Helen (Greenawalt) Kummer and Virginia (Knaack) Kummer.
A private burial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Greenwood Cemetery officiated by Pastor Christine Schoenwetter.
