Helen Eileen Fahrney, age 100, of Monroe passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at St. Clare Friedensheim Assisted Living. She was born the daughter of John and Johana (Portman) Hirsbrunner on July 31, 1918 in Sylvester Township. Helen was united in marriage to Walter Oscar Fahrney on August 25, 1934 in Freeport; he preceded her in death in 1987.

Helen was employed at Swiss Colony for many years. She was very talented; she had decorated wedding cakes and made pies for the restaurant in Albany. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, painting, knitting, sewing, and making clothes; having made clothes for herself and her family. She had a great love for her cats as well as cardinals. She was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church.

Helen is survived by her children, Arlie (Susan) Fahrney of Monroe and Betty Lorfeld of Winnebago, IL; six grandchildren, Bruce Fahrney, Stacey (Jeffrey) Olson, Jamie (Bobette) Fahrney, Beth (Gregory) Guth, Becky (Felipe) Martinez, Bonnie (Jeff) Gray; step-granddaughter, Leslea (Brad) Helgeson; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Evelyn Weber and Lucille Babler; and son-in-law, Marlin Lorfeld.

Memorial Services were held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Booth as officiant. Private family burial was held. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisted the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at shriner111.com.
