Heather Lynn Schmid
Heather Lynn Schmid

Heather Lynn Schmid, 36 years young, of Orangeville, Illinois, passed away suddenly on July 6, 2025. Heather was a beloved momma, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend to everyone she met. It’s never fair to have to write a eulogy for a loved one, but it always hits a little differently when it’s for a young woman with so much life and potential still ahead of her.

Heather was the daughter of Steve and the late Rhonda (Neuenschwander) Schmid. She was born at Monroe Hospital, two years after the passing of her older sister, Rebecca. Heather grew up in rural Orangeville and spent the greater part of her life in her hometown. She graduated from Orangeville High School in 2007 and earned her accounting certificate from Blackhawk Technical College in Monroe, Wisconsin.

As a child, Heather was a Girl Scout and explored a variety of interests wherever she could find joy—crafts, reading magazines, attending sports camps, caring for the family pets, snowmobiling, and camping with family and friends. As Heather grew up, she took an interest in plants, coloring, and shopping for deals with her mom. Everywhere Heather went, she made a friend. Even if it had been a long time since you had seen her, she had a special gift for picking up right where the conversation left off. Heather’s heart was grounded and generous. Though she carried her share of scars, she still wore her heart on her sleeve. To know her was to be loved by her.

The greatest love of Heather’s life was her son, Devin. She did everything she could to provide for him, often juggling multiple jobs. She also dedicated much of her time to caring for her mother during her many health battles, including her recent fight with cancer. Heather’s loyalty and love for her family ran deep.

Heather was preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca; her maternal grandparents, Nathan and Betty Neuenschwander; her paternal grandmother, Francis; and her mother, Rhonda. She is survived by her beloved son, Devin Stansberry (12) of Orangeville; Jimmy Stansberry of Orangeville; her father, Steve Schmid of Orangeville; her sister, Sarah, & Robby Dube of Minnetonka, MN & her nephew, Henry Dube; her grandfather, Henry Schmid of Monroe, WI; along with many aunts, uncles, many cousins, and countless close friends who now carry a Heather-sized hole in their hearts.
