Gayle D. Johnson, age 95 of Monroe, WI formerly of Wiota, WI passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Aster Retirement Community in Monroe. She was born December 27, 1923 in Iowa County, WI, the daughter of Henry and Mae (Lee) Fingerson. Gayle graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1942. She worked in Madison as a bank teller when she met the love of her life. Gayle was united in marriage to Sherman Johnson on September 14, 1946 in Madison, WI. Following their marriage, they moved to Wiota where Gayle farmed with her husband.

Gayle is survived by her six children: Connie (Rodger) Sack of Albuquerque, NM, Mary (Tom) Stepanek of Wild Rose, WI, Ralph (Margie) Johnson of South Wayne, WI, Bob (Joan) Johnson of Barneveld, WI, Richard (Laurie) Johnson of Gratiot, WI, and Mark (Jennifer Brandt) Johnson of Wiota; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Luther Fingerson of Janesville, WI and Merrill Fingerson of San Francisco, CA; She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sherman in 2015; one granddaughter: Amber Sack; two brothers: Donald and Gerald Fingerson and one sister: Helen Christopher

Gayle was a member of Wiota Lutheran Church, its Miriam Circle of the Women of ELCA, and taught Sunday School for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting for her family, friends and church. Gayle cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the memories they created together, more than anything else in the world. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Monday, June 3, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Wiota Lutheran Church (6682 State Rd 78, South Wayne) with Rev. Traci Maass officiating. Burial will be in West Wiota Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Wiota Lutheran Church and on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church.
