Florence Helen Salzwedel, age 98, of Monroe passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the SSM Hospice Home. She was born the daughter of Peter and Irene (Kaech) Gerber on December 22, 1924 in Clarno Township. She was a 1942 graduate of Monroe High School. Florence was united in marriage to George F. Salzwedel on February 7, 1948.
Florence was employed many years at Swiss Colony, retiring in 1987. She was a longtime member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose Lodge #599; she also volunteered at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, worked at election polls, and at the Red Cross blood drives for over 30 years. She was a Cubs fan, liked to read, going for walks, playing cards especially yass, taking care of her flowers, and spending time with her family.
She leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Sherri (Steve) Sorg; granddaughter, Maggie; grandson, Daniel; great-granddaughter, Molly; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
Florence has left this world to be with her Lord and joins her parents; husband, George; son, Scott; daughter, Sue Ann; brothers, Leo, Glen, and Daniel; and sisters, Marie Rufer and Gertrude Wiethop.
Per Florence’s wishes no formal services will be held. A private family graveside service will be held in Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Meyer officiating.
