Elaine E. Karlen, age 93, of Monroe, died on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Aster Assisted Living. Elaine was born on July 7, 1932 in Northwood, North Dakota, the daughter of Oscar and Alice (Walgrave) Kammerud. She was a 1950 graduate of Blanchardville High School and was united in marriage to Rollie Karlen on February 23, 1952 at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. Elaine was employed as a teller at First National Bank and as a personnel officer and assistant cashier at the Commercial Bank in Monroe before retiring.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Angelo) Karlen Lekas, Elizabeth (Robert) Stormont; four grandchildren, Alexander C. (Samira) Stormont, Ellen Stormont, James Stormont, Alexandra (Justin) Lundsteen; and two great grandchildren, Linden Bauer and Charlie Stormont. Elaine is further survived by her sister, Judy Hughes; and brother, Fritz Kammerud. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rollie, on August 2, 2018; sisters, Darlene (Jim) Hogan, Mary Joyce (Henry) Blumer; brothers-in-law, Mike Hughes, Ralph Karlen; and sister-in-law, Virginia (Cal) Drafahl.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., at Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Father Chahm Gahng officiating. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials are suggested in Elaine’s name to the American Heart Association.
