Dorothy Christen, age 92, of Monticello, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. She was born on April 5, 1933, in Monroe, WI, to William “Bill” and Christina “Carrie” (Pilz) Leopold. Dorothy graduated from Monroe High School in 1950. On June 18, 1950, she married Wilbert Christen Jr., and together they farmed on the family farm in Mt. Pleasant Township while raising their three children: Ken, Tom, and Ann. After Wilbert’s passing, Dorothy moved to Monticello.
Dorothy was deeply devoted to her family, friends, and farm. She was known for her warm hospitality, always welcoming visitors with a cookie, a cup of coffee, or even a meal. She cherished spending time with her loved ones, cooking, playing cards, and enjoying life on the farm. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Ken (Linda) Christen of Monticello, WI; Tom (Theresa) Christen of Waunakee, WI; and Ann (Jacob) Kaderly of Monticello, WI. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Nick (Amy) Christen, Keith (Angie) Christen, Michael (Kristian) Christen, Tyler (Marie) Christen, Travis (Missy) Christen, Katie (Aaron) Abraham, and Matthew (Tara) Kaderly. Dorothy was blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Dorothy is further survived by her sister Shirley (Bill) Pick; her brothers Robert “Bob” Leopold and Virgil (Carol) Leopold.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert; her parents; her brother, William (Joyce) Leopold; her sisters-in-law, Mary Leopold and Norma Trumpy; and her grandson, Trent Christen.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello with Reverend Peter Strobel officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences at Zwingli Fellowship Hall following the service. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Wednesday, February 18, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church one hour preceding the service.
