Donald J. Sherfield, 83, of Janesville, WI, formerly of Huntley, IL, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born March 25, 1939, in Elgin, the son of John and Opal (Hill) Sherfield. Don Married Joan Urbach in Huntley on Nov. 10, 1957. He was a hard-working dairy farmer all his life. Don was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Huntley. After retiring, he enjoyed watching Wisconsin sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and Badgers. Don was an avid bird watcher and painted birdhouses for the family to enjoy. He will be deeply missed by all.

The family would like to thank the Janesville Agrace hospice staff for their exceptional care.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan; his three children, Sherry Hanson (fiancé Bernie Ramos), Randy (Babzett) Sherfield, and Jodi (Andy) Merritt; six grandchildren, Jamie (Sarah) Hanson, Jeremy Hanson, Jasper Hanson, Brandon Baertschi, Jenny Sherfield, and Jaclyn (Justin) Cheever; 9 great-grandchildren; and many extended friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Williams, and Betty Chally.

Services for Don will be held on Friday, Feb. 10 at 1 PM at the James A. O’Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St. in Huntley.

Visitation will be prior to services at the funeral home from 11 – 1 PM.
