Diana Elaine Prien died on May 20, 2025, at Dimensions Living, formerly Azura in Monroe. She was born June 5, 1936, to Weston and Selma (Blum) Elmer at Deaconess Hospital in Monroe. She was a 1954 graduate of Monroe HS and 1956 graduate of Green County Teachers College. Diana married Gordon Prien on October 6, 1956 in Monroe. They farmed south of Monroe until moving to Monroe in early 1996.
Diana continued her studies in Education and graduated from UW Platteville in 1985. Diana always talked proudly about teaching in the one room schools of Buckskin and Saunders. She continued to substitute teach after graduating from UW Platteville. Diana was a substitute teacher in Argyle, Monroe, Blackhawk, Albany and Brodhead schools. She loved being the substitute teacher in Albany and Brodhead and having a grandchild in the classroom.
Diana was a member of Staver’s United Methodist Church and served on many church committees. She was a member of the Room for You church ladies group. She was well known for her apple slab pie. She was also a member of the Honey Creek Watershed and Green County Farm Bureau.
Surviving Diana are Janis (David) King, Albany, Carolyn (Randy) Williams Brodhead, Keith (Laurie) Prien Monroe and daughter-in-law Angel Prien, Monroe. Grandchildren Adam, Aaron, Arik King, Tara (Williams) McAnelly, Paige Prien, Nicole, Riley, Michelle, Weston, Sarah, Quinn and Easton Prien. Great-grandchildren Grace, Braun, Beau, Reina, Tala and Logan King, and Killian McAnelly. She was further survived by nieces, nephews, and cherished first cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband Gordon; son, Alan Sr.; grandson, Alan Jr.; and brothers, Dwight, Duane, and Daniel Elmer and nephew Gene Weckerly.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
