Dennis “Denny” O. Thompson, age 78 of Monroe passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the SSM Health Monroe Hospital. He was born the son of Odell and Mavis (Helmeid) Thompson on August 26, 1946. He graduated from Blanchardville High School. After high school Dennis proudly served in the United States Army. On May 6, 1972 Denny married the love of his life Linda Neuenschwander at St. John’s United Church of Christ.
Denny was a mail carrier for the Monroe Post Office; retiring in 2002 after 30 years. Not one to sit around, after retirement Denny got a job at Napa Auto Parts. Denny loved camping, deer hunting, helping on the family farm, and playing Euchre. He was also an avid bowler, bowling alongside his wife, Linda in couple leagues and with his son, Brad both in Monroe and at the state level. Most of all he cherished spending time with his family. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.
Denny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda of Monroe; children, Kelli Jo (Joe) Kaiser of Monroe, Brad Thompson of Blanchardville, and Jay Albrecht of Monroe; grandchildren; Jake Gassman, Chelsea (Nick Spencer) Thompson, Amber (Trevor Meier) Trickel, and Ronald Thompson all of Monroe; great-granddaughter, Maiveri Spencer; sister, Karen Schrenk of Waunakee; son-in-law, Jeff Trickel of Monroe; daughter-in-law, Kelly Rae Olson of Black Earth; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Heidi Trickel; and sister, Joanne Toay.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 6:00 PM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Jason Rupnow officiating.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the funeral home. A Celebration of Denny’s Life will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the American Legion in Monroe. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Denny’s memory.
