It is with a heavy heart and a grateful spirit that we announce the passing of Clyde Lawrence Homb, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Clyde was called home to the Lord on January 1, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after a brave battle with cancer. Born on February 10, 1931, in South Wayne, Wisconsin, to the late Harry and Sophie (Ganshirt) Homb, he was a beacon of humor, optimism, and kindness throughout his 94 years of life.
In his early years, Clyde grew up in a bustling household with his brothers Robert, Vernon, Raymond, and Kenneth, who have all preceded him in death. Clyde was proud to be big brother to his surviving siblings, Ruth (Komprood), Grace, and Roger. One of his dearest relationships was with his cousin Virginia “Ginny” Mayer.
His early life in Wisconsin included cherished memories and lessons that he carried throughout his life. Clyde enjoyed sports, music, dancing, hunting, and fishing. In his youth, he developed friendships that would last a lifetime. Particularly, his participation in the Boy Scouts instilled problem-solving skills, accountability, and confidence.
After graduating from high school, Clyde served honorably in the Navy on the USS Wright and subsequently at Cory Field during the Korean War. This period of his life instilled a deep sense of duty and patriotism, while also fostering a lifelong interest in aeronautics. Following his service, he embarked on a career in the aerospace industry, leading him to relocate to Texas. There, he pursued his passion for engineering by attending the University of Texas at Arlington. His technical acumen and unwavering work ethic made significant contributions to the nation's space exploration efforts, including working on all six space shuttles.
Clyde’s life was anchored in his love for family. He was a dedicated father to his children, David, Christie Rooney (husband Joe), and Nancy Homb (Kevin Crawford). His role as a grandfather to Jeffrey Rooney (wife Ella) and great-grandfather to Liam and Nora was one of his greatest joys. He imparted wisdom, laughter, and a sense of joy to his grandson and great-grandchildren, who will carry his legacy forward. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family - shooting pool, playing cards, enjoying family dinners, antiquing, and travelling.
Clyde’s love for family extended to his many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. His best friends of over seventy years were Bob O’Dell and his wife, Mary. He was a surrogate dad to his neighbor, Judith Benites, and grandpa to her three children, Alejandro, Vanessa, and Isael, who played on his porch as kids. He enjoyed close relationships with many neighbors and eagerly anticipated the boys’ breakfast meetings.
His interests were as diverse as his skills. Clyde was an avid water-skier in his younger years, a hobby that highlighted his adventurous spirit and love for the water. His passion for playing slots was unmatched, a pastime that brought him much joy and excitement. His ability to fix anything that was broken was a testament to his ingenuity and resourcefulness, traits that he passed on to those around him.
Clyde’s humor was infectious, and his optimistic outlook on life was unwavering. He was the kind of person who could light up a room with his presence and make anyone feel at ease with his kind-hearted nature. Those who knew Clyde will remember him as a man who could always be counted on for a good laugh, a helping hand, and words of encouragement - not to mention his charm and flirtatious nature.
Clyde's life was a testament to his character - funny, optimistic, and kind. These traits were the pillars upon which he built his relationships and the legacy he leaves behind. Though he has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit remains a guiding light for all who were blessed to have known him. As we bid farewell to Clyde, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, marked by dedication to family, country, and faith. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort us as we hold him close in our hearts until we meet again in the presence of our Lord. Clyde Lawrence Homb's life was a journey well-traveled, and his footprints on this world will never fade.
