Carol Goepfert

Carol Goepfert, age 83, of Argyle, WI, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at SSM Health - St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born February 15, 1942, in Amboy, IL, the eighth child of James Leroy and Edna Paschal Flynn. Two weeks later the family moved to a farm near Albany, IL, in Whiteside County, IL.

Carol attended Spring Creek School, a one room country school, for five years. In 1955, all of the one room schools in the area were closed and consolidated with the Albany school system and Carol finished her elementary education there. Carol then attended Fulton Community High School graduating in 1960. After high school, Carol enrolled in secretarial and accounting courses at Rockford Business College, when her courses were nearing completion, The Swiss Colony in Monroe called the school looking for a candidate to fill a vacancy that was anticipated. Carol went for an interview, was hired, and that is where she met her future husband.

On April 7, 1962, Carol was united in marriage to William Goepfert at Yellowstone Lutheran Church in rural Argyle, WI. Carol worked office jobs all her life, starting with Swiss Colony and Trumpy Cheese Company and Zwicker Construction Company. She worked with her husband as owners of B & B Camping and Communications. Later she worked for Buehler Travel Agency, Ferrellgas and Badger State Propane.

Carol was a member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church and was treasurer of its Women's Missionary Federation for many years. Carol bowled for many years with the Pleasure League and Keglerette League at Turner Hall in Monroe. She was also a member of the Colonel Benjamin Harris chapter of the DAR and was quite proud to find out her 6th great-grandfather served in the Revolutionary War. Carol loved to read and work in the garden taking care of her many perennial plants.

Carol is survived by her two children: Krista (Curt) Iverson of Warrens, WI, and Keith (Lynn) Goepfert of St. Michael, MN; and five grandchildren: Kolton (Cheyenne) Kaloep, Konnor, and Erin Goepfert, and Dane and Cade Iverson. She is also survived by three sisters: LaVonne "Bonnie" Williams of Rock Falls, IL, Arlene Kimmer of Clinton, IA, and Mary (Ed) Jacobsen of Hazel Green, WI; one brother: William Flynn of Milledgeville, IL; a brother-in-law: Pete Goepfert; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents: Edna and James Leroy Flynn; her husband Bill in 2023; infant son: Kevin Goepfert; three brothers and their wives: LaVerne "Joe" (Donna), Frank (Irene), and Mike (Louise); two sisters: Lorraine Bailey and Lucille Huggins; two sisters-in-law: Carol (Pete) Goepfert and Virginia Drake; and four brothers-in-law: Wesley Kimmer, Jim Williams, Howard Huggins, and Jack Drake.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Cornerstone Lutheran Church (1540 Old Highway 81) with Cal Schaver officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family.
