Ardellis Rufener

Ardellis L. Rufener, age 92 of Monroe, died Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. Ardellis was born on May 18, 1926 in Huron, South Dakota, the daughter of Albert and Dora (Siegenthaler) Ufken. She graduated from Juda High School in 1944 and attended beauty school in Madison. She married Erwin P. Rufener on June 6, 1948 at St. John’s United Church of Christ. Ardellis kept the books and helped Erwin make cheese at the Holstein Prairie and Apple Grove Cheese Factories. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and was a proud member of the Adams Township Homemakers for over 50 years. She also ran a silk flower business out of her home for several years.

She is survived by two children, Connie (Gary) Betthauser of Camp Douglas, WI, and Paul (Patti) Rufener of New Glarus; nine grandchildren, Kristi (Richard) Lohmar, Anthony (Tanya) Betthauser, Brian Betthauser, Amanda (Michael) Busse, Sally Jo (Steven) Bye, Paul Casey (Heather) Rufener, Andrew (Shanna) Rufener, Kirsten (Brandon) Van Asten, Derek (Kaitlyn) Hendrickson; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Jackie Ellingson of Belvidere, IL, Lea Ann Pillath of Lena, WI; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Ufken of Monroe, Carla Ufken of New Glarus. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin, on April 14, 2015; three brothers, Alfred, Eugene, and Earl “Pee Wee” Ufken; and a sister, Jo Ann Craft.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Monroe, with Rev. Todd Hackman officiating. Interment will be in Adams Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Argyle. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe.
