Alvin A. Niesman, 87, of Stockton, formerly of Lena, passed away with his wife by his side on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. He was born in McConnell, IL on August 16, 1933 to Alfred and Ruth (Phillips) Niesman. He married Lois Ditsworth on July 25, 1952.
Alvin owned and operated his own construction company and sold Burg Barn Cleaners for many years. In his younger years he helped at Leamon’s Furniture Store installing carpet, appliances, and helping out with numerous other projects.
Alvin was a member of the Lena Lions Club for over 50 years. He enjoyed helping with the Fall Festival, participating in fundraisers, and driving in area parades for the organization. Alvin was very social and outgoing but most of all he had a big heart and was a giver to all. He checked with loved ones and friends often to make sure everyone had what they needed. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He had an annual turtle fry that his family looked forward to all year long.
Alvin enjoyed many activities such as vegetable gardening, fishing, hunting, camping, searching for morels, playing euchre and bingo, and gambling at The Q in Dubuque, IA. He loved going to Friday Fish Fry’s, especially at the Slurp n Burp.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Lois; 2 daughters- Marcie (Gary) Hartwig, and Kathie (Mike) Roling; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son Greg, and daughter Peggy.
Funeral Service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 until time of service on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL.
Jonathan Singleton will be officiating the service.
Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL.
Cremation rites have been accorded
A memorial has been established in his memory.
