MONROE — Residents of Green County and the surrounding area are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Green County Family YMCA’s expansion and renovation project. The event will be held on the field outside the Y at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9. Members of the Y’s project design team, as well as state and local leaders, will talk about how the project came together and the impact this expansion will have on the local community.

The Green County Family YMCA has been a pillar in the community for over four decades. This project will revitalize the facility, radically transforming it into a vibrant community hub for local residents, providing an abundance of gathering spaces for adults, seniors, youth and entire families. The needed expansion will allow for new innovative programs that will have a long-lasting impact on the health of people for generations to come.

The YMCA’s enhanced facility will include a combination of renovated and newly constructed spaces with the addition of 40,000 square feet. New spaces will include Childcare and Youth Development Centers, a Healthy Living Center, Gymnastics Center, community kitchen, fitness studios, community room and a second gym.

Work will be conducted in two phases to minimize the impact to YMCA members and programs. The first phase will focus on the facility expansion with construction anticipated to last 13 months and open Spring 2025 with renovations to the existing facility to follow.

To date, over 450 families and local businesses have donated to the project. To join the growing list of donors, view photos of the construction progress, or to learn more about the project, visit www.greencountyymca.org/stronger. Donations of $1,000 or more will receive named recognition on a donor wall.
