INDIANAPOLIS - Cassie Wymer, a member of the Brodhead FFA chapter, earned a gold rating and National Runner Up in the National Dairy Cattle Handlers Contest. The National FFA Dairy Cattle Handlers Activity recognizes the contributions of handlers in presenting each animal to its best advantage for the dairy cattle participants in the evaluation of dairy cows and heifers during the National Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event.
Participants are scored on their appearance, control of the animal, and poise and confidence. They also must demonstrate competence in setting up and maintaining the assigned animal and moving the animal as requested by the ringmaster.
Wymer helped to show eight different dairy animals, of various breeds, to minimize faults and maximize strengths. The dairy cattle handlers activity is sponsored by National FFA Foundation.
This event, held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, is one of many educational activities at the 82nd National FFA Convention in which FFA members practice lessons taught in agricultural classes.
