MONROE - Illuminations Dance Department will present a dance recital at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.20, at the Monroe Arts Center Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall, as a benefit for the Monroe Arts Center. The 2008 recital titled "Wonders of Winter" is the fifth consecutive year this benefit dance event has been held.
More than 50 dancers from Monroe's Illuminations Dance Department will be performing a combination of jazz, ballet, and tap dance numbers to some very familiar holiday tunes, such as "Suzy Snowflake," "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" and "Auld Lang Syne." A cast finalé by all six Illuminations Company level dancers will light up the dance floor by performing to "The Silent Nutcracker."
The presentation is open to the public and free-will donations will be accepted at the door. Illuminations Dance Department Studio owner and instructor, Andrea Balsiger, comments, "It is a wonderful time of the year to celebrate what we have, and to hold dear to our hearts. Our community is exceptionally fortunate to have such a glorious arts facility as the Monroe Arts Center, which provides residents with performances, gallery exhibits, and other exciting events year round."
Balsiger attended the Monona Academy of Dance, Vibeology Dance Network, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Theater/Dance Department. As a dance instructor, she is dedicated to bringing quality instruction in proper dance techniques and performance skills to students. Illuminations Dance Department, located at 1412 13th St., is founded on the beliefs that the aesthetics of music and dance enhances and benefits the dancers, their families, and the community, and that such education provides for long-term growth.
