MONROE - A Monroe woman accused of stabbing her husband pleaded not guilty on Monday, Feb. 13, in Green County Circuit Court.
Shannon Golackson, 27, faces up to 43.5 years in prison and $110,000 in fines if convicted. She was originally charged with three felony counts related to the incident: aggravated battery, intimidation of a victim and false imprisonment.
After a preliminary hearing in late January, the prosecution added a fourth charge of recklessly endangering safety in the first degree, a Class F felony.
Her husband testified at the preliminary hearing that she stabbed him in the chest with a steak knife during an argument on Dec. 4, then left him helpless overnight on the floor of their home. She took him to an emergency room the next day, he said, but only after he agreed to an alibi for his injury. Over the next four days he spent in the hospital, doctors drained about a liter of blood from his lungs, according to his testimony.
Golackson has a pre-trial conference scheduled on March 27.
