SYLVESTER TOWNSHIP - A 26-year-old Albany woman was transported to an area hospital via MedFlight for serious injuries Sunday after she jumped from a moving vehicle in Sylvester Township.

According to a Green County Sheriff's Department news release, Heather L.D. Halverson jumped from a vehicle driven by Laverne J. Richards, 47, Monroe. Halverson fell onto the paved roadway in the N3500 block of Wisconsin 59, south of Burkhalter Road. She sustained injuries and was transported via MedFlight.

Sheriff Mark Rohloff said Halverson had a large laceration to the back of her head from jumping out of the vehicle.

"She tumbled along the roadway and into the ditch, which is where we found her," Rohloff said.

Richards was later arrested for driving under the influence, first offense, and was released pending court.

The incident remains under investigation to determine if Halverson willfully jumped out or was forced out of the vehicle. Halverson told deputies on scene that she jumped of her own volition. Rohloff said it has yet to be determined if Halverson had drugs or alcohol in her system at the time of the incident.

Halverson also told law enforcement she was arguing with the driver before she jumped from the vehicle. Rohloff said a witness on scene said they saw Halverson and Richards fighting, but this has yet to be confirmed.

There was no damage to the vehicle Richards was driving.
