TOWN OF DECATUR - A pedestrian was hit by a truck, denied being injured and was later arrested for drunk driving on County E in the Town of Decatur Tuesday.
Karessa J. Patterson, 31, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, second offense, after deputies interviewed her after she was hit by the truck.
According to a Green County Sheriff's Department news release, the truck was driven by Leonard C. Nickels, 46, Brodhead, who told deputies he was eastbound in the W300 block of County E when he attempted to avoid Patterson, who was in the roadway. Patterson was walking towards Brodhead in order to retrieve gasoline for her vehicle, which she left parked in a driveway on County E. She refused EMS transport.
Patterson was also cited for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and pedestrian failure to walk on the left side of the highway. She was jailed on a probation violation. Online court records indicate Patterson was on two years of probation for a December 2013 conviction of battery to law enforcement. Deputies, Brodhead police, Brodhead Fire Department and Brodhead EMS responded to the scene.
