Woman, 90, injured after hitting pole
News Brief with BKG

MONROE — A 90-year-old woman was injured after her vehicle went off the road and hit a traffic signal pole near Walmart Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8, according to the Monroe Police Department.

Dorothy A. Schlapbach of Albany was transported by Green County EMS for non-life threatening injuries. Her vehicle sustained major damage, with airbag deployment.

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. at 6th Avenue West and West 7th Street. Schlapbach collided with the traffic signal pole on the southwest side of the intersection, knocking it over.

Police are still investigating how the accident happened, and no citations have been issued.

"We want to know a little more, like why this would have happened," said Chief of Police Fred Kelley.

Traffic is routed up around the intersection due to construction on Wisconsin 81.

"They are detouring around the Walmart so the traffic volume has gone up," Kelley said.
