Wisconsin Wins urges online training for tobacco retailers

MONROE - The Wisconsin Wins program and its partner, the Green County Health Department, would like to remind retailers and the community about a free online training for retailers and their employees regarding tobacco sales.

The legal age for purchasing and possessing tobacco is 18 and selling tobacco to minors is illegal. Summertime is a time when youth under the age of 18 may be more inclined to try to purchase tobacco products.

The training, titled SmokeCheck, is available online at www.smokecheck.org. The tool teaches the facts about Wisconsin's tobacco sales laws. When the facts are known, retailers and their employees can avoid citations.

Wisconsin Wins provides resources and a network of partners to assist retailers in being sure they and their employees are not illegally selling tobacco to minors. Green County Health Department is a partner with the Wisconsin Wins program. The goal is to keep tobacco out of the hands of kids. The county conducts tobacco compliance checks annually to be sure everyone is aware of the laws and abiding by them.
