Wis. 11 improvement project moved up to 2022
road work

GRATIOT — A Wisconsin Department of Transportation project that was scheduled for 2026 has just been moved up to 2022. Constructional improvements on Wis. 11 in Lafayette County from Shullsburg to Gratiot will begin next year.

It is one of 42 projects statewide that has been advanced due to Federal COVID-19 Relief funding.

The 10.53 miles of WIS 11 will begin from Shullsburg Branch Bridge on the east side of Shullsburg to Wolf Creek on the west end of Gratiot.

The current roadway has existing pavement deterioration with cracking and rutting. Culverts within the project limits have sections of separating causing erosion and infill of the pip. Grading along the guardrails is also eroding.

The project includes a 2-inch mill and overlay for the 10.53 miles of roadway in order to extend the pavement service life. Centerline rumble strips will be added to improve safety along the corridor. The new asphalt surface will be striped using epoxy pavement marking and grooved wet reflective epoxy edge lines. Beamguard will be repaired where needed. Work will be performed on the cattle pass structure C-33-392 headwall. Culverts along the corridor with separated sections will have the sections reset and tied to stop erosion and infill of the pipes.

Wis. 11 will remain open to traffic during the entire project. It will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations and some shoulder closers may be necessary during construction.

Final documents are scheduled to be complete by November 2021 with construction slated for Summer 2022.
