Wiota house fire causes little damage

WIOTA - A house fire early Friday morning in Wiota Township was relegated to a small portion of the home after firefighters from Wiota Fire and First Response were able to extinguish the flames.

Just before 7 a.m., firefighters and emergency workers were called to Stuart Road for a chimney fire.

Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill said a sergeant from his department was at the scene to help with traffic, though there were few vehicles on the rural road.

"It didn't sound like they needed to run a whole lot of water either," Gill said.

Gill said the operation ended in a "good save" because flames were restricted to only a part of the house and the homeowners would likely continue to live there. Gill said they did not require aid from Red Cross.

The Woodford Volunteer Fire Department, Argyle-Adams Volunteer Fire Department and Argyle EMS assisted at the scene.
