MONROE - As part of a way to raise school spirit during the long winter and at the same time help some great charities, Key Club, National Honor Society, and Student Senate are working together to make the first Winter Week at Monroe High School.

Winter Week started yesterday and goes through Saturday, Feb. 16.

On Monday students gave out hot chocolate before school. The dress-up day theme was winter wear.

Today, the dress up day was Monroe gear. At lunch the students did karaoke, with the winner being decided by a penny war.

Also starting Tuesday night at the 7:30 p.m. girls basketball game, 100 t-shirts will be given out to the first 100 people to bring food for a food drive. T-shirts are being given by Canton Promotions and Monroe Mania. The T-shirt giveaways will also happen for the other two games this week, the boys basketball game on Thursday and the girls basketball game Friday.

On Wednesday there is beach day, with a beach-themed lunch menu and popsicles at lunch.

Thursday is Valentine's Day, and upperclassmen are encouraged to wear pink, while the lower are encouraged to wear red.

The dress-up day theme on Friday is white out day.

A Winter Turnabout Dance will end the week on Saturday.

The food collected before the games will go to the Green County Inter-Church Food Pantry, while the money will be split between the American Heart Association and the Ronald McDonald Charities.
