MONROE - The Monroe school board decided Monday to hire the principal of an alternative high school in West Allis as the assistant principal of Monroe High School.
The board will offer the position to Nick Schultek, principal of the James E. Dottke Alternative High School in West Allis, District Administrator Larry Brown said this morning. According to its Web site, the school has more than 90 students and six full-time instructors.
Brown said this morning that Schultek has verbally accepted the position, but must be released from his present contract. After he is released from West Allis, Monroe can formally offer him a contract.
Schultek will replace Mike Bruckwicki, who is retiring this summer after 25 years as assistant principal at MHS.
He was one of two finalists the district's administrative team interviewed for the position Thursday. The other candidate was David Moody, a middle school teacher in the Oconto Falls School District.
More than 80 applicants initially applied for the position. Of those, six were selected to interview Feb. 14 with a team comprised of MHS Principal Mark Burandt, one school board member, teachers, parents and students. The two finalists were interviewed by the administrative team Thursday, with its recommendation given to the school board during closed session Monday.
West Allis is near Milwaukee and had a population of about 62,000, according to the 2000 census. The West Allis-West Milwaukee School district operates 12 elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools and the alternative high school.
