MONROE - Monroe High School student Jess Weeden set four new records for American deaf competitors in the 2009 Deaflympics, completed Saturday in Taipei, Taiwan.
Weeden, an MHS senior, competed in 13 events at the Deaflympics. She will come home this week with two bronze medals - in the 50-meter breaststroke and 4x200 relay, both establishing new American deaf records. Weeden also set a new American deaf record with her sixth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, and she participated on the record-setting fifth-place 4x100 medley relay team.
She also finished fourth on the U.S. 4x100 free relay team, and fifth in the 400 individual medley. Weeden placed sixth in the 200 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, eighth in the 100 butterfly, 11th in the 50 butterfly, 12th in the 200 IM, 17th in the 200 backstroke and 22nd in the 100 backstroke.
