BRODHEAD - Almost 2 inches of rain fell near Brodhead Thursday, which resulted in a flood warning for people near the Sugar River.
The National Weather Service on Friday issued a flood warning for the Sugar River and for the Pecatonica River near Blanchardville.
The flood warning for Brodhead is in effect until Tuesday afternoon.
At 9:15 a.m. Friday, the river was at about 3 feet. Flood stage for the river is 5 feet.
The NWS reported the river would rise above flood stage by Friday afternoon and continue to rise to near 8.5 feet by Saturday evening.
Farmland flooding is expected.
Some farmland near Brodhead has remained under water for more than a month. Crops have been planted around the flooded areas.
Green County ag agent Mark Mayer estimated county crop damage to be between $12 and $15 million. He said about 5 percent of the county's cropland has been lost this year due to floods.
Fields near Blanchardville also were under water today, according to the Blanchardville Police Department.
The National Weather Services forecasts a 30 percent chance of rain today. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. No rain is expected for the next few days, however.
