MONROE - Wal-Mart still expects to have a grand opening for its Monroe Supercenter in late summer 2009.
Corporate Construction LTD ran into rock at the new Wal-Mart site on the city's northwest side, which could have set the construction time off track.
"They ran into quite a bit of rock," said Lisa B. Nelson, senior manager of public affairs for Wal-Mart.
But now people passing by on Wis. 11/81 can see the store's steel frame going up.
"They will shortly see the exterior walls going up," Nelson said.
"I talked with Corporate Construction, and they expect to have the parking lot done in a couple weeks," she said.
County N was closed to be rerouted west of the Wal-Mart site and to install a sidewalk across the Wis.11/81 overpass along Sixth Avenue West.
The permit to redo the road allowed 90 days to completion. City Engineer Supervisor Al Gerber said County N should be open by the end of October.
