Virtual aviation event to inspire girls

MADISON — A special ‘Fly Like a Girl’ virtual movie screening and Q&A with pilots will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 23 sponsored by the Wisconsin Girls in Aviation Four Lakes Chapter, Oshkosh Chapter and Southeastern Chapter.

The special guest for the Q&A portion will be Vernice Armour, who is a former United States Marine Corps officer and was the first African American female naval aviator in the Marine Corps, and the first African American female combat pilot in the U.S. Armed Forces.

During the event, a $250 scholarship for flight lessons or a discovery flight will be given out to one girl aged 8-17.
