NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus Village Board will meet in closed session Tuesday, Oct. 5 to review applicants for police chief.
New Glarus Village Administrator Nic Owen said the board plans to narrow the number of candidates to four or five. After the candidates are selected, the board will discuss possible dates for interviews.
In August, the village board decided to post the police chief position and request applications from people interested in the job. Owen said the village received 13 applications for the position.
New Glarus Police officer Jeff Sturdevant has been acting chief since Aug. 1. He replaced Steve Allbaugh, who retired July 30 after 10 years as chief.
Sturdevant withdrew his name as a candidate for the position in August. He didn't tell the board why he decided not to be a candidate for the job.
New Glarus Police officer Szvon Conway interviewed for the job in August, but after Sturdevant withdrew his name, the board decided it needed to have more than one applicant for the position.
