Victims named in fatal Ill. 26 crash

ORANGEVILLE — Stephenson County Sheriff Steve Stovall on Tuesday, Aug. 12 released the names of the two drivers killed in a head-on collision about a mile south of the Wisconsin-Illinois border from last weekend.

According Stovall, Darcy Connolly-Brunner, 61, Freeport, and Rolando Ico-Choc, 30, previously of Freeport were killed in the Saturday, Aug. 9 accident.

The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at approximately 12:38 p.m. on Aug. 9 to a head-on collision on Illinois 26 near Oneco Road in rural Orangeville that claimed the lives of both drivers.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Ico-Choc’s Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Illinois 26 when it entered the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Ford Edge driven by Connolly-Brunner. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

Toxicology testing will be conducted as part of the autopsy process, and results may take several weeks to be returned.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit. Responding unites to the scene included the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office, Orangeville Fire Department, Winslow Fire Department, Cedarville Fire Protection District, Leamon’s Ambulance Service, the Stephenson County Coroner’s Office, and the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
