MONROE - The victim in a fatal shooting July 22 at a Monroe trailer park has been identified as Samuel Primeno Nunez, 40.
Nunez was a resident of the trailer home at 702 17th St.
Monroe police were called to the location at 7:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Officers found Nunez deceased and another man, 32, seriously injured. The injured victim was taken by Medflight to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison and his condition was reported to be improving.
That man's identity is still not able to be released, Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said Tuesday.
The homicide suspect was himself fatally shot by police after he fled the scene on foot and was located a short time later, reportedly covered in blood and carrying a handgun. Police commanded the suspect to drop the gun; instead, he pointed it at officers and police opened fire. Two Green County Sheriff's deputies are currently on leave as the Department of Justice investigates, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
The suspect also has not been identified.
Kelley said last week that the men's families may be living in another country, which has impacted officials' ability to notify kin.
Monroe police continue to investigate the homicide. Kelley said the three men involved apparently knew each other and the shooting stemmed from an argument.
