MONROE - Junior Robertson, William Hustad, Ron Spielman and Mike Doyle met recently at the Pleasant View Park at the corner of Wisconsin 81 and County N in Monroe to lay out the Green County Veteran's Memorial Park boundaries.
The GCVMP has made plans to develop a memorial park to honor all veterans in Green County. As a result of that meeting, Doyle, the Green County clerk, drew up an easement. The easement is north of the parking lot and is 130 feet by 75 feet. It was then brought before the Green County Parks Committee and approved.
At the June 28 meeting of the GCMVP board, the same easement was approved. The board has an application for 501c3 designation pending with the IRS.
Rough drawings for the park layout is the next step. These drawings were discussed, and then a committee was appointed. A military tank is presently at the site, and a helicopter is planned at the opposite end.
The site will be enhanced with additional flags representing all branches of the Armed Forces, memory garden, dedicated brick walkway, benches, and additional landscaping. Alex Engels, who is planning his Eagle Scout Project, may assist with the flagpole project.
The next meeting of the GCVMP board is 6:30 p.m. July 26 at the Monroe VFW.
Any interested persons are welcome to attend the meeting. Donations are welcome and should be made out to Green County Veterans Memorial Park Project and may be mailed to P. O. Box 10, Monroe, WI 53566.
