TOWN OF MAGNOLIA - Authorities say the 23-year-old driver of a 2007 Chevy Malibu died at the scene of a crash northeast of Albany early Wednesday that seriously injured two others.

Matthew Kraft, South Wayne, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, Joshua Swenson, 24, Evansville, was flown by helicopter to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

The other driver, Gregory Schultz, 51, Monroe, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville.

Both sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to a release from the Rock County Sheriff's Department.

The crash was reported at 5:24 a.m. on Wisconsin 59 about a fifth of a mile east of North Wis. 104, near the Rock-Green county line.

Kraft collided with a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville after he lost control, left the road and then overcorrected, rotating and sliding sideways into oncoming traffic, according to the sheriff's department.

The Malibu landed on its passenger side in the middle of the road. The Bonneville, driven by Schultz, came to rest in a ditch about 15 feet from the road.

All three men involved in the crash had to be extricated. Emergency crews tried to revive the unresponsive Kraft but were unsuccessful.

Authorities say Kraft was not wearing a seatbelt and believe speed is a contributing factor in the accident.

No citations will be issued in reference to the crash, according to the sheriff's department.

Assisting at the scene were Green County deputies, Evansville police firefighters and medics and Brooklyn firefighters.
