MONROE - One home lost power, but there were no injuries after an unoccupied vehicle hit a power pole Friday.

The incident was called in at about 5:04 p.m., and Monroe Police responded to the 1200 block of 2nd Street near Twining Park.

Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said an unoccupied minivan was left running in gear by the entrance of a nearby business before it rolled across the yard of the business, crossed 2nd Street and then collided with and knocked over a utility pole.

The collision caused a nearby power transformer to shut down, knocking out power to one residence for about 50 minutes. The power was restored by Alliant Energy.

The vehicle sustained significant damage as did the power pole. The incident remains under investigation.
