Two hospitalized in drunk driving crash

MONROE - Two people were hospitalized as the result of an early-morning accident caused by a drunk driver, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department.

The one-vehicle rollover crash happened at 1:35 a.m. Tuesday in the W4100 block of County C in the Town of Mount Pleasant.

Christopher R. Vandervalk, 21, Monroe, was westbound on County C when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. The vehicle overturned twice and came to rest in the ditch. Ricardo M. Rea, 20, Monroe, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Vandervalk and Rea were transported by private vehicle to the hospital before law enforcement arrived on the scene. Both subjects were injured. The vehicle received very severe damage and was towed.

Vandervalk was arrested for first-offense driving while intoxicated causing injuries. He was released.

Rea was cited for failing to notify police of an accident and underage alcohol consumption. He was also released.

Monticello Fire personnel also responded to the crash.
