TOWN OF SYLVESTER - A fire that destroyed the home of Dick and Ellen Marti along Jamberry Lane in Sylvester Township is still being evaluated by officials to determine the cause of the blaze.
Juda Fire Chief Steve Isley said the department responded to the house fire around 10:30 p.m. on Friday. The fire enveloped the Martis' home as firefighters from seven different departments worked to put out the flames. Isley said the fire began in a detached garage and spread to the home. He added that the house was a total loss.
Dick Marti declined to comment.
Another fire broke out early Saturday in a nearby barn along adjoining Burkhalter Road. Isley said the barn had minor damage. He added that the two buildings are less than a mile apart. Isley and Green County Sheriff Mark Rohloff noted that both incidents are currently under investigation. Rohloff said the cause of either fire is "undetermined at this time."
