MONROE - A full day of activities is planned Sunday at Twining Park as Monroe celebrates Independence Day.

From games for kids to sporting events for adults to fireworks, the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will be offering something for everyone.

A highlight on Sunday will be the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. The "Salute to America" is sponsored by Wisconsin Community Bank.

But the fireworks are only part of a list of day-long events.

Co-ed volleyball and softball tournaments will be held all day at the park. Soccer tournaments for young children to adults will be held at the Green County Family YMCA soccer fields, across from Twining Park. Each team is guaranteed to play three games. Everyone who plays will get a medal.

For information about the soccer tournaments, call (608) 329-2460.

Activities for children will be held at the park from 1 to 4 p.m. More than 15 games, all with prizes, will be available for children.

The Tot Lot singers will perform at 10:15 a.m., and Studio M Dance Team will also be performing. The City Band will perform its concert at 8 p.m.

Clinton Zettle will provide horse-drawn wagon rides around the park between 1 to 4 p.m.

The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department's Midget League and the Teenie Tiny Girls Softball leagues will play ball at noon at the Twining Park west and east ball diamonds.

Several concession stands will be located at the park for people who want to eat or drink.

Volunteers to work the concession stand and carnival games are still needed. To volunteer call Carol Wyss at (608) 329-2466. Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt for helping.

Proceeds from the Fourth of July celebration will go toward Twining Park ball diamond improvements.
