Best selling author in Switzerland, British-born Diccon Bewes, will appear at the Turner Hall Sept. 23.

MONROE — Following a two-year lapse in programming due to the pandemic, Turner Hall of Monroe’s Swiss Heritage Series recently announced a presentation and book signing by the personable and witty British-Swiss author, Diccon Bewes, on Wednesday, June 1 at 7 p.m. in the Grand Hall of Turner Hall.

Bewes will be making his fourth visit since 2015 to Turner Hall as part of a whirlwind book tour in the United States that includes New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Sarasota, Miami, Chicago and Monroe.

He will speak about his latest books, a children’s atlas of Switzerland titled “Cartopraphica Helvetica”, and “Swiss 52”, a book about his 52 favorite places in Switzerland, as well as his other books highlighting unusual facts and stories about Switzerland. Some of Bewes’ books will be available for sale and signing at the event.

In addition to authoring numerous books, including the bestseller “Swiss Watching: Inside the Land of Milk and Money”, Bewes is also a contributor to SwissInfo.ch, a ten-language news and information platform produced by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. Additionally, his work has been featured throughout Switzerland in various forms of media, from print to radio to television.

His other books, written in English and then translated into German, include “Slow Train to Switzerland”, “Around Switzerland in 80 Maps”, “False Friends: 51 Ways to be Misunderstood”, and “How to Be Swiss”.

Originally from Great Britain and now a Swiss citizen, Bewes worked as a travel journalist in London, and later became the manager of the Stauffacher English Bookshop in Bern. He is now a full-time writer, exploring bits of Switzerland most people have never heard of before.

Free and open to the public, Bewes’ appearance is being co-sponsored by Turner Hall’s Swiss Heritage Series and the Swiss Center of North America in New Glarus. In light of increasing cases of COVID-19, masks will be required and other safety protocols will be followed. Turner Hall is located at 1217 17th Avenue, two blocks south of Monroe’s Square.
