MONROE - The Green County Land and Water Conservation Department is offering eight varieties of hardwood trees and three varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting trees in the spring 2013.
The tree varieties are: Bur Oak, Red Oak, White Oak, Swamp White Oak, Sugar Maple, Sycamore, Shagbark Hickory and Butternut. Shrubs available are: Nannyberry, Hazel Nut and Ninebark.
The trees and shrubs will be bare root; 1 to 2 feet tall for Shagbark Hickory; 1.5 to 2 feet tall for Butternuts, 2 to 3 feet tall for the White Oak, Sugar Maple, Sycamore and all shrubs; and 3 to 4 feet tall for Red, White and Swamp White Oaks.
The cost is $2 a tree with a minimum order of 10 of one species; all must be ordered in increments of 10 per species.
The trees and shrubs are all native to the area and are considered hardwoods. The species offered this year cover a broad range of soil types and moistures, from dry to very wet.
Orders will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 28. Trees will be delivered near the end of April.
