MONROE — A man on parole for receiving stolen property was arrested earlier this week after Monroe police investigated a tip jar theft at a downtown bar.

Jason R. Quintero, 46, Monroe, faces a misdemeanor charge of theft from the incident.

The theft happened Sunday, July 28, at Baumgartner’s Cheese Store and Tavern, 1023 16th Ave.

Surveillance video from the bar shows a man, later identified as Quintero, “leaning over and snatching” cash out of a tip jar, said Chief of Police Fred Kelley.

As a result of the theft investigation, Quintero’s parole officer authorized a warrant for his arrest.

Quintero was arrested at about noon the following day, after a Monroe police officer spotted him in the Walmart parking lot, Kelley said.

Quintero is on extended supervision after serving a prison term for a felony conviction of receiving stolen property in Green County. At his sentencing in 2015, the prosecutor told the court Quintero has a history of property crimes and alcohol-related offenses.
