MONROE - A heavy dose of thunderstorms appears to be on tap for Green and Lafayette counties this week, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued Monday from the National Weather Service.
Thunderstorms are considered likely for tonight and Wednesday night into Thursday night due to a strong frontal boundary remaining close to southern Wisconsin, with a slight risk of severe thunderstorms today through Friday.
The chance for thunderstorms is expected to persist through Sunday.
The National Weather Service warns that some of the thunderstorms will produce heavy rainful, which will likely lead to flooding and possibly flash flooding.
The National Weather Service also says there's a good chance Wisconsin will see at least one tornado this week.
The National Weather service says a tornado before 6 p.m. today would give the state its sixth latest start to tornado season since record keeping began. After that, the state would move into one of the top five slots.
The latest start to a Wisconsin tornado season since the weather service began tracking such details in 1950 was in 1995. A tornado didn't touch down until 6:15 p.m. on June 28, 1995.
The weather service says Wisconsin is likely to see a tornado during the risk of severe weather through Wednesday.
