Three days full of events planned

MONROE - The public can get a sampler of the Monroe Arts Center's Autumn Swing Dance Weekend with a free concert by the Cangelosi Cards and the Gordon Webster Trio from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Monroe Arts Center.

The Cangelosi Cards also will give an informal performance on the Courthouse Square following the children's Halloween parade on Friday, Oct. 31.

The band and the Gordon Webster Trio then will perform for the Friday evening dance at 8 p.m. at Turner Hall. The fun will continue into the wee hours with a "Late Night" event from 1 to 4 a.m.

Saturday will feature an Artisan Gallery and Studio Crawl in the Monroe area from 1 to 4 p.m. Minhas Craft Brewery, Alp and Dell Cheese Store and the Historic Cheesemaking Center also will be open for tours. Baumgartner's Cheese Store and Tavern will host a polka band beginning at 4 p.m.

Saturday evening's dance event at Turner Hall is more formal, with black tie optional. Both the Cangelosi Cards and the Gordon Webster Trio will perform during the dance, which runs from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The weekend concludes with a Sunday brunch served by Peppercorn Banquets at Ludlow Mansion.

A weekend pass is $60 and includes tickets to both dances, Sunday brunch, and a Monroe Swag Bag including a commemorative poster and other goodies from area companies. The poster was designed by Nathan Berg, who works at Swiss Colony.

The dance Friday costs $25. That price includes admission to the Artisan Gallery Studio Crawl and the polka band at Baumgartners.

Saturday's dance is $60, or $80 with dinner included. Admission to the dance includes the Artisan Gallery Studio Crawl, the polka band at Baumgartners and Sunday brunch. A table for eight at the Saturday night dance, including dinner, is $600.

Dinner will include soup or salad, bread, and the choice of four entrees, sliced pork loin with an apple glaze; herb baked chicken; breaded shrimp; or prime rib. Dinners include a twice-baked potato, honey-glazed carrots and a desert of Swiss Mocha ice cream or autumn apple cheesecake. Menu selections can be made the night of the event. Diners should call the Ratskeller at 325-3461 to make a reservation.
