Thoughts on Cheese Days 2016: Wowza!

Wowza! What an incredible weekend! I hope you had as much fun as the royalty did over Cheese Days weekend. We had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of people, getting their stories of where they came from to attend the festival, and hear how much fun they were having in our city of Monroe. I personally met people from Missouri, Baraboo, Illinois, Richland Center, and many more. The weekend went fast, but we hope you were able to enjoy it with your family and friends. A huge "thank you" to those who volunteered their time in the beer tent, retail tent, cleaning up, giving tours, and maintaining our waste receptacles of various types - we couldn't have had a successful weekend without your help and time.

So how do you know you had a good time at Cheese Days? I will sum up just a few items that may have happened to you if you enjoyed the festival:

You had Optimist Cheese Curds for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Your feet hurt.

You used the port-a-potties ... at least two times.

Your ears hurt from attending the street dances.

You temporarily lost your friends or family.

You took a picture of or with someone wearing lederhosen, dirndl, or carrying an alphorn.

You danced a polka.

You bought a few pounds of cheese and it is already gone.

You bought a Cheese Days shirt and now someone else wants it.

You smiled and laughed until your cheeks and abs hurt.

You met a cheesemaker.

You have a new love for Swiss heritage and cheesemakers.

You took the limburger challenge and have a picture with the Heidimen.

You now know what/who a Heidiman is.

Your belly hurt from eating too much.

You walked around the Square at least three times.

You watched the two-hour long parade, and never got bored.

You had grilled cheese, cheese curds, cheese, cheesecake on a stick, anything and everything cheese.

You now want to pair as many things with cheese as you can.

You miss the entertainment, games, and fun you had over the weekend and wish it was every year.

We are already starting to plan for Cheese Days 2018. If you were able to enjoy this year's Cheese Days, please consider being part of the team in two years to help make Cheese Days possible. Also, if you had a great time let us know by sending us a note on Facebook with a picture or send us an email. Reach out any time by visiting CheeseDays.com.

I will most certainly see you around Monroe and some of the local events. Never forget how much our local farmers and cheesemakers impact our county's success, and say thanks when you get the chance. We have phenomenal people here, who care about our communities and we need to take pride in continuing these traditions. See you soon and thank you for your support.

Signing off for now -
