MONROE - The Green County Fair Association is sponsoring a sanctioned Wisconsin State Fair Junior Amateur Talent Competition on July 25 during the Green County Fair.
There will be two age divisions where each first-place winner will move on to the state competition scheduled on Aug. 14. Applications are available starting May 1 through June 21.
"We had a very good response to our first amateur talent qualifying competition with both age division represented. We are extremely excited when last year's Green County talent contest winners, Alex Olgesby and the all-girls group Precocious, both brought back the first-place honors from the Wisconsin State Fair Talent contest," said Pam Wyss, contest coordinator.
The state sanctioned Green County contest is open to all legal residents of Wisconsin. The contest divisions, Youth (2 to 12 years) and Teen (13 to 18 years), have four basic talent areas to select from: Dance, vocal, instrumental and variety. Contestants will have one minute to set up and a maximum of three minutes to perform. Additional contest requirements are provided with the application. The contest will limit each division to the first 10 qualifying acts.
"This year's state contest is again providing state level competition and price money for the top three finalists in each division. The contest is designed to feature the talent of individual acts to a five person group. This is not rock band, combo or karaoke contest. Performers will need to be prepared, as there are strict time limits. It's a 'Green County Finds Talent' opportunity and I'm hoping we see some great young talent coming out again this year," Wyss stated.
Applications are available by contacting greencountyfair@tds.net, on the fair website www.greencountyfair.net or by calling the Green County Fair at 608-325-9159.
