JUDA - The search for a new superintendent in Juda continues.
Superintendent Gary Scheuerell said the board has instructed him to advertise for the position after the district was unable to come to terms with two candidates for the superintendent post.
Monroe High School Principal Mark Burandt and Florence School District Superintendent Tom Woznicki were two finalists for the job selected by the board in April. Scheuerell declined to comment about negotiations between the board and the finalists because the discussions were done in closed session.
The school board plans to meet June 16 to discuss the superintendent position again. Scheuerell said the board hopes to have a new superintendent by August. The district wants to find a candidate for the position within the next 30 to 40 days, he said.
Scheuerell, who has served as superintendent for eight years, plans to retire at the end of the school year. He's leaving the district after more than 40 years as an administrator at various schools, including Juda.
"After 44 years in administration, I'd like to spend more time with my family," he said.
He's willing to stay with the district through the summer to help a new superintendent with the transition, he said.
