DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society will bring The Stump Fiddle Band and Just Jake together in an April 13 concert to help raise funds for restoration of the 1937 caboose, now sitting on the tracks beside the Darlington Depot.
There has been lots of talk about getting the caboose, and now that it’s here, the question is, “What happens next?” Restoration to Milwaukee Road Colors and creating a space the public can visit and enjoy is the job ahead, and that will require fundraising. Almost as soon as word got out, volunteers starting contacting the society, including Jim Jacobson, who offered his talents for a fundraiser.
Local favorite known for their train songs, The Stump Fiddle Band went on indefinite hiatus a few years ago. This is a one-time special performance to support the Caboose project for Darlington.
Doors for the event open at 6:30 p.m., with the show at 7 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Darlington. The concert will take place as the Legion’s delicious Steak Fry dinner wraps up. The Steak Fry is downstairs and the concert upstairs. In addition to the music, the Legion Bar will be open and desserts will be available for sale. Tickets for the show are available at the door, as well as in advance at the Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society.
The society is seeking donations for a silent auction that will be held during the show. Anyone with items or services that wants to donate to help raise money for the caboose restoration can contact Nancy at 608-482-1140.
